If you love French antiques like we do, then you know that the hunt for the perfect piece can be as exhilarating as bringing it home. And once it finally makes it way home, each new antique quickly reserves a spot where it will be showcased and adored. If your home is on the eclectic side, you may find that mixing contemporary items with antiques is a bit of a challenge. Does the the scrolling curves hand-carved credenza really go with the clean-lines of a modern sofa? Absolutely.
For instance, one of the loveliest examples of mixing and matching the old with the new is Mark Bloomfield and his French wife Claudine Sorel’s home in Meridian Hill Park. First featured in the Washington Post last March, it really shows how French antiques can mix and mingle with its modern counterparts. Just be aware that your affinity for French culture will grow with each acquisition.

I love mixing antique and contemporary pieces, but find it the most challenging aspect of being an amateur decorator. Even if you have a strong inclination to a certain period or style, it is the mixing that takes your home to another level of chic. I would love to learn more about it.
Nice blog – couldn’t agree more with whatever you said. Keep up the good work!
